Robbie Williams “Rudebox” CD worth 49p
Leave the first response October 30, 2007 / Posted in ShoppingThat’s a bit harsh, I thought, when my CD arrived in the post. The “Intrinsic Value” was printed on the bubble pack envelope as 49p. Obviously some customs thing. I won’t pretend to understand.
I’d previously decided not to buy this particular Robbie Williams CD, after seeing the Rudebox video on TV. But when I saw the whole album (not just the single) priced at £2.99 in CD WOW!’s pre-Christmas sale, I relented. Even if I only liked one or two tracks, it would be worth the money. As it happens, I like quite a few.
I actually ended up with even better value than I initially thought. Firstly, because I found an old £1 voucher before ordering, which reduced the price including delivery to only £1.99. Secondly, they accidentally sent me the “special edition” version, which includes a separate DVD featuring a documentary and live recording.
I know there’s a bit of a rumpus going on within the industry about retailers selling low priced CDs from abroad, but whilst the option’s there, I’ll happily take it.
High street prices aside, even online this same CD is currently priced at £15.43 at ASDA Entertainment, £14.99 at HMV and £11.46 at Amazon (three random places I just checked off the top of my head).
CD WOW!’s price (for the same version) is a comparative snip at £5.99 delivered. And if you’re not bothered about the DVD, you can still currently get just the CD for £2.99, again including delivery.
When I’m out in the shops and see people paying £10-£16 for stuff they can buy online for £3 – £8, I want to go up and physically shake some sense into them. Yes, it’ll take a few days to arrive. But at prices like these – including for new releases - it’s well worth the wait. Especially if you get the special edition by mistake! ;)
NB Take care to check track listings before ordering, as some editions sold from overseas may differ.
