British Gas launches WebSaver 3
1 Comment May 7, 2009 / Posted in House & homeBritish Gas has today launched a new online price plan, WebSaver 3, which currently offers the cheapest online dual fuel prices based on average UK household consumption*. The pricing also reflects a new and immediate reduction of 10% in British Gas’s standard prices for electricity.
The new price plan replaces WebSaver 2 as the cheapest British Gas dual fuel (gas and electricity) tariff.
According to utility price comparison websites, switching to British Gas WebSaver 3 should see many householders’ gas and electricity bills falling back below the £1,000 mark for the first time since last summer.
WebSaver 3 features online account management, paperless billing and bills based on your meter reading entries as opposed to estimates. The only downside is a £30 charge per fuel if customers switch away from the new price plan before December 2009.
* Bills for comparison purposes are based on average annual usage of 20,500 kWh for gas and 3,300 kWh for single rate electricity, with payment by monthly direct debit. Competitor bills were calculated using the cheapest online tariffs and average consumption figures, with prices correct as at 7 May 2009.
See the British Gas website for full details, terms and to apply online for the new product.

I believe that this is a con because the prices quoted for WebSaver 3 in my area are more than I am actually paying on WebSaver 1. I think this is because the discount WebSaver 1 enjoys from the standard price is 10% whilst WebSaver 3 it is only 6%. I recommend that everyone should check very carefully before switching especially as there is a “fine” of £30 per fuel if you switch out again before Dec.
