Great news! Tesco has introduced a “Double Up” option for redeeming Tesco Clubcard vouchers.

As you probably know, there are normally two main ways to redeem Tesco Clubcard vouchers. You can either redeem them at face value (x1) against the cost of shopping at Tesco or redeem them for four times their face value (x4) with a wide range of Clubcard partners (eg RAC, Virgin Holidays, Eurotunnel, Hilton, etc) or for AIRMILES® or BA Miles.

Tesco has now introduced a middle-ground option, whereby you can exchange your Clubcard vouchers for “Double Up Reward Tokens”. These tokens are provided at double the face value of your redeemed vouchers (x2). So whilst they’re not as generous a reward as Tesco’s partner deals, they’re still twice the value of redeeming them at face value, which has to be good news.

Double Up Reward Tokens are valid on Tesco’s own products from selected departments. At the time of writing, this includes:

- Wine, champagne and fortified wine (either bought in-store or online via “Wine by the case“);
- Clothing (in-store only);
- Cosmetics, skincare & fragrances (in-store);
- Toys (online and in-store);
- Baby & toddler (online and in-store);
- Flowers, plants & gardening (online and in-store);
- Tesco Mobile network top-ups (in-store);
- Instant travel insurance (in-store);
- Instant breakdown insurance (in-store).

Some products within the above categories are excluded from the offer, as detailed on Tesco’s web site.

You’ll need to exchange your Clubcard vouchers for Double Up reward tokens before making any of these purchases (which seems a complicated way of doing things, but let’s not look the gift horse in the mouth).

Clubcard vouchers can be exchanged for Double Up reward tokens online, in-store (but not at Tesco Express) or by post, which at least makes the process convenient for all. And if you’re exchanging online or by post, you should receive your rewards tokens within five working days.

Double up rewards tokens are valid for three months from the date of issue - don’t let them expire!

The current end date for redeeming tokens on wine and champagne is 30 September 2009, ditto for flowers, plants & gardening. Dates aren’t mentioned for the other categories on the literature we’ve seen, but be sure to check all applicable terms and conditions either online or in the current Rewards brochure.
