Prepaid cards

Prepaid cards - introduction

Prepaid cards are different to traditional debit, credit and charge cards. They're like pay as you mobile phones, as you need to top a prepaid card up with money before using it. Once you've used up that amount, you simply top the card up again.

This means that prepaid cards are available to most people, even those without bank accounts or with a poor credit history. Prepaid cards are also useful in offering the convenience of paying by card, whilst reducing the risk of running up unplanned borrowing on credit cards or bank overdrafts.
