Thumbs down Specsavers, Never Again!

2nd Rant

I bought 2 pairs of glasses from Specsavers (2 for 1) and have had them for just under 2 weeks.

I was reluctant about going their from comments from other opticians, but I did because they were giving the best deal.

I used the pair of rimless/frameless and felt one of the screw was loose, after wearing it it was becoming more and more loose. In the end I could not wear them anymore.
The second pair fitted ok.
With both pairs I started to notice that with a slight turn of the head things were not as clear. So basically the area of 100% vision was very small. I compared them with my old pair and my old pair were much better.

I went down to Specsaver and they tightened the screw on the 1st pair and found a fault in one of the lenses in the 2nd pair (axis was wrong). The young girl said they will replace the faulty lens. I said it seems both pairs of glasses are not right.
As soon as I talked about a refund she brought in another guy. He said let me go down to the lab and check them again. He came back saying the problem is very small. I asked so are you going to replace the faulty lens as the young girl said, he replied no, it is fine only out by a small amount and within the British Standard. Then he went down to the lab again and said they have corrected both lens and made them more curved. He also was giving me all this technical talk trying to convince me that nothing is wrong.
I was still noticing the same problem, plus now on one of the lenses the coating was cracked. I just told him, look enough is enough, I had been there for over 45 mins. I told him I want a refund, he replied saying the manager is not here until the weekend and he does refunds.

I was also disgusted at the attitude of the staff, during the 45 mins I sat there. I noticed 2 people that were unhappy with their service. I Also noticed them slagging customer off when they left.

I went to Visions Express and asked them what is your refund policy, they said if your are not happy with the glasses we will refund them (no quibble) if within 30 days, he said even after 30days they will still look at refunding you.

Specsavers are very cheap and use very cheap materials. I have now been told by many people the same.

Now I am waiting for the Manager to get back to me. Hopefully I will get a full refund. Then never again shall I buy from Specsavers.

Just wondering how you got on with your glasses. I too have been having problems with specsavers, now on second pair of remakes and still have blurred vision. Been to them for years with no problems before, i am going to ask for a refund when i take this pair back because i have had enough now.

you are not the only one, i also had the same problem with specksavers, the one thing weird here is the fact that after 6 months i restart to see blur again with the glasses on and it is impossible to keep them on too long because i feel dizzy after a while....

Went to SS with a prescription for glasses 4 years ago and was satisfied with them. This month thought I would give them a chance to do the eye test as well and get a good deal on the glasses (2 4 1). Foolishly!!!!! So far Ive had migrains every time I us a pc when wearing them, and this is despite telling the optician that my work involved pc work under artificial lights at night. Have today gone back and the glasses aparently are as per the eye test, but Im back for a retest with a different optician for a second opinion. Here's hoping! If its not sorted will go for the refund.

Default Don't go the the chain opticians

What gets me with the chain opticians is that the staff don't have a clue. Whenever I go in, they assure me I can 'get 2 pairs for £79' or whatever the current deal is. I say 'no I can't!'. They say 'yes you can!'. I say 'no I can't!'... getting the gist here!????

My prescription is too strong for all of the deals - I would be looking through double glazed glasses if they had their way!

Stick with the independents. My optician has been trading for years. She is highly qualified and I trust her 100%. She only charged me 50% when I went to her after poor care with a 'chain' optician who told me I didn't need any contact lens check-ups and only to come back if I had a problem. I had hard lenses and my eyes are now scarred and have little sensitivity. Who else can get a lash in their eye and hardly feel it?

I had to keep changing my glasses lenses as my eyes starting healing and adjusting and she was brilliant.

They have much nicer glasses - less choice but none of the 'granny' styles that they fob you off with at the 'chains'.
